According to the ANCI, Italy announced that the amount and value of leather exports in the first 5 months of 2011 increased compared with the same period last year.

Fabio Aromatici, director general of the Footwear Manufacturers Association (ANCI), said that due to the decline in global red meat consumption and the increasing demand for leather in China, this will put enormous pressure on the supply of leather products worldwide.

During this period, Italy exported nearly 108 million pairs of footwear products, with an average price of 27.73 euros per pair and a combined export value of less than 3 billion euros.

The above values show an increase of 9.7%, 6.8% and 17.2% respectively.

Leather footwear products account for almost 83% of the export value, but the number of exports is only 58%, and the value of non leather footwear has increased.

Between January and May, Italy exported about 25 million 800 thousand pairs of shoes (artificial vamp), 21.2% higher than the same period in 2010.

The export value of these artificial shoes is 263 million euros, 34% higher than the same period last year.
