Cotton is a kind of hermaphrodite flower. At present, artificial seed pollination is widely used to produce hybrid seeds at home and abroad. However, this method is expensive and the quality of seeds is difficult to guarantee.

Beginning in 2003, the Hunan Yueyang Agricultural Institute and Yueyang Dongting high tech seed industry Limited by Share Ltd used wild Thurber cotton to carry out the breeding experiment and successfully bred the male sterile line 6001A of cotton.

Experts from the Cotton Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of agricultural sciences have conducted a field investigation and evaluation of 6001A. It is considered that the male sterility of the cotton male sterility is stable and thorough, and its agronomic characters are excellent. It has high utilization value and prospects for development and utilization.
