< p > the Australian Competition and Consumer Council (ACCC) recently conducted a regular market spot check. A total of 199 textile products were tested. It was found that four jeans and one pillowcase contained potentially harmful azo dyes, and the content exceeded the limit which was commonly accepted.

Voluntary recall of related products is undertaken by the supplier.

< /p >

< p > at present, the product safety regulations of the European Union and some Asian countries prohibit the use of certain azo dyes in textiles.

Some retailers in the United States have also implemented some azo dye restrictions on their products.

At present, there are no laws or regulations in Australia that prohibit the import of azo dyes.

< /p >

< p > > therefore, the National Industrial Chemicals Notification and Assessment Scheme has taken action to prohibit the sale of a href= "//www.sjfzxm.com/news/index_c.asp" > clothing > containing harmful azo dyes, and recommended that the import of such products be restricted.

< /p >

< p > Australia does not currently have legislation to limit the content of any harmful chemicals in textiles, but ACCC has the right to recommend or force suppliers to recall unsafe consumer products according to the Australian consumer act.

As we all know, not all azo dyes in textiles will cause problems, but some coloring agents are classified as carcinogens, and they can not be used in products with long term skin contact.

< /p >

< p > according to ACCC, < a href= "//www.sjfzxm.com/news/index_c.asp > > consumer goods < /a > suppliers shall be responsible for ensuring that their products are in conformity with the law and applicable to the purpose of safe use.

In this case, the supplier should ensure that the products with direct and long-term contact with the skin contain no more than 30 mg / kg of harmful aromatic amine.

< /p >

< p > in addition to the safety problem of harmful a href= "//www.sjfzxm.com/news/index_c.asp" > azo < /a > colorants, ACCC also actively monitors the safety of consumer products containing formaldehyde.

Any product that may cause harm and does not meet mandatory standards or prohibitions must be recalled.

ACCC also provides temporary and non regulatory reference limits for formaldehyde for many types of products: < /p >

< p > infant clothing: 30 mg / kg < /p >.

< p > clothing specially sold to skin sensitive people: 30 mg / kg < /p >

< p > clothing with skin contact: 100 mg / kg < /p >

< p > other garments or fabrics: 300 mg / kg.
